OPTION 1

Start with the water and plaster of Paris.

Pour the plastic container partially using water, then add the plaster. I say slowly because we may not want to add more based on the consistency.

Blend this same plaster of Paris and water together again in your mixer. Using the mixer makes sure everything is completely blended.

Mix the paint into mixed plaster.

I discover that by using a mixer guarantees that perhaps the paint, water, and plaster of Paris are completely mixed.

A mixer is just not necessary, but does end up making the blending process much easier. I would also advise against using your costly mixer. I am using an old single blender that I ended up getting for about $20.

The recipe worked well, but it had some grit to it. It wasn't as smooth as it could have been.

The DIY chalk paint recipe using unsanded grout appears to be less popular than the other recipes. I'd still like to try it so I can compare the four.

APPLYING CHALK PAINT With Only a SPRAYER

I always had supposed chalk

would not function in a paint sprayer But guess what? Yes, it does!

However, there are a few points to consider.

You will need to adjust the recipe by adding more water. The consistency should be similar to, or slightly thinner than, regular latex paint.

When you're finished spraying, clean your paint sprayer right away! This is intended for use with the paint sprayer whenever chalk or regular paint is used.

Because of the plaster of Paris in the recipe, allowing the DIY chalk paint to sit in the paint sprayer can damage it. PoP hardens, and hardening in the sprayer is a problem.

Using a paint sprayer with chalk paint, in my opinion, is not the best option. Instead, use

TIPS FOR CHALK PAINT

Painting with chalk paint is, for the most part, straightforward. However, there are a few tricks you can employ to make the process go more smoothly.

Tip #1 – Recognize when you need to do some preliminary work.

Preparation work may be necessary depending on the piece you are painting.

As an example, consider a piece with chipped paint. You want a smooth surface to apply your chalk paint to, so sand the chipping paint away. Trust me, you'll get a better result.

Or a piece of stained wood furniture. You may notice chalk if the piece of furniture was not properly sealed.

When you see the stain coming through the paint, you have chalk paint bleed. If this happens, take a break and grab a stain-blocking primer.

More chalk paint will not solve the problem. The only way to stop that unsightly bleed through is to use a product designed to do so.

This is why it's always a good idea to test areas before you start painting.

Tip #2 – Allow the first coat to dry completely.

We all want immediate results in this age of instant gratification. However, do not rush the chalk paint drying process.

Allowing the first coat of chalk paint to dry will improve the application of the second coat.

Tip #3: Make small batches of DIY chalk paint.

In my experience, the plaster of Paris chalk paint recipe does not store well.

When I tried it with chalk paint on my dining room table, the texture became clumpy. I learned my lesson and began making small batches in the future.

#4: Seal your furniture.

Sealing your freshly painted furniture will protect it from daily wear and tear. You worked hard to create it, and you want it to last.

There are numerous chalk paint sealers to choose from. Polycrylic is my preferred material. because it is long-lasting and simple to use Chalk paint wax also works well, but it requires more maintenance.
